Strategic Horizons Framework & Trees

How to decompose 6-Month visionary targets into 3-Month objectives and 1-Month tactical deliverables with automated progress rollups.

Horizon Decomposition Architecture

In Zurvan, work is structured hierarchically so that no daily task exists in a vacuum:

🌌 Long-Term Horizon (6 Months) ── "Unified Cloud Communications Mesh"
  │
  ├── 🏔️ Mid-Term Horizon (3 Months) ── "WebRTC SFU Cluster Ingest Engine (Q3)"
  │ │
  │ ├── ⚡ Short-Term (1 Month) ── "AAC-to-Opus Audio Gateway Release"
  │ │ │
  │ │ └── 📅 Day Timeline ── [Aug 27] Benchmark WebRTC Ingest Jitter (Must Do, 50m)
  │ │
  │ └── ⚡ Short-Term (1 Month) ── "High-Concurrency Turn Server Deployment"
  │
  └── 🏔️ Mid-Term Horizon (3 Months) ── "Enterprise VPC Isolation & Audit Logging (Q4)"

The 3 Horizon Tiers

6 Months

🌌 Long-Term Horizon

The overarching strategic North Star. Sets platform direction and multi-quarter initiatives.

3 Months

🏔️ Mid-Term Horizon

Quarterly engineering milestones that bridge broad vision into tangible feature sets.

1 Month

⚡ Short-Term Horizon

Current month deliverables. Daily calendar tasks link directly into this active milestone.

Automated Completion Rollup

As engineers mark daily tasks complete on the timeline, completion percentages bubble upward automatically through the tree:

  • Short-Term Goal Progress: Calculated from percentage of completed tasks parented to that horizon.
  • Mid-Term Goal Progress: Calculated from average progress of constituent short-term goals.
  • Long-Term Goal Progress: Rolled up from all child mid-term and short-term deliverables.
